MICCA
is a non-profit membership organization that is dedicated to providing
leadership for advancing meaningful uses of technology in the
educational
communities of Maryland.
MICCA
traces its beginnings to a series of informal meetings held by
supervisory
staff from several Maryland
school districts in 1984. These technology coordinators met to share
information and discuss technology programs. By 1986, MICCA became an
official
organization and officers were elected and a constitution was adopted.
Over
time, MICCA's Executive Board grew to include committees that focused
on an
annual conference, workshops, awards, contests, grants, and higher
education.
As a result, MICCA's membership has grown from 40 to 2,500 which now
include
technology coordinators, educators, library/media specialists, and
institutions
of higher education. In 1986, MICCA implemented the first annual MICCA
Conference, which has become a must-attend event for our members and
sponsors.
The annual conference now provides over 200 concurrent sessions,
national
keynote speakers and poster sessions. In 2000, MICCA became an
affiliate of
ISTE, the International Society for Technology in Education, to be able
to
contribute to and benefit from the international network associated
with the
leading organization for educational technology professionals.
